Preface to The Thing*
*(from Dialogues: Conversations and Collaborations in the Spirit)

The Thing would not have been written without the inspiration of Goat Wisdom which ~used as a title~ you will find in the Walls Index by Title . The Goat-epigram which inspired the conversation that resulted in The Thing can be seen across the top of The Thing.

The Thing, however, is itself not a part of this collection, and is not included in this Index/menu. The Thing, instead, is a component of the aggregate Dialogues III which, in turn, is included in the collection Dialogues: Conversations and Collaborations in the Spirit. (For an explanation of this use of the term aggregate ~which at SPR is peculiar to the organization of that collection alone~ see its Author's Preface .)

Walls Preface to The Thing has been included as a part of Walls for two reasons:
(1) To call the reader's attention to the role Goat Wisdom played in the creation of The Thing, close in time to the reader's initial experience of Goat Wisdom ~in particular, of that specific Goat-epigram as a part of the whole~ and
(2)To reinforce reason number one, above, by providing reader-access to The Thing from within Walls.
