Pinery Road Days Buckskinner Encampment and Black Powder Rendezvoux
Pinery Road Days -
"The first weekend after Independence Day, (July 7-8, 2001) is reserved for the days of the past. When the simple things of life are expressed, and the pace of modern day is slowed to a steady calm."-- From the Adams Country Historical Society's Website--Events Page
This July 7th and 8th saw Adams-Friendship's annual "Pinery Roads Days-Buckskinner Encampment and Black Powder Rendezvoux" at the Friendship Village Park. The event has grown from about 10 encampments over a decade ago to more than 70 tents, lodges and teepee's. People come from all over the Midwest to participate in this encampment, which seeks to recapture life as it was in pre-1840's.
A view of some of the Encampment
The conveniences of modern day life are left behind-- all cooking is done over open campfires and electricity and plumbing are done without. Candles and lanterns provide the only lighting.
A spinning wheel and loom are exhibited at one of the camps.
A encampment blacksmith demonstrates his art.
The clothing is authentic to the early 1800's.
