I am still entranced and challenged by the prayers of the youngsters Carl Burke writes about in "Treat Me Cool Lord."
"Lord, I dont know all the big words the preacher sez. I aint much at talkin to people and tell them what Im thinkin, but Im in a mess now and need to know how to talk to you. I hope you will learn me how."
Then another heart felt message. "Dear God, The time has come for me to go home and Im scared mostly cause I want things to go right this time. Everybody is telling me how I just got to do better in school and I want to. They tellin me I just gotta obey my mother, and I want to, they tellin me I just gotta listen to my worker and I want to, they just tellin me all kinds of things that I gotta do. Maybe I just gotta listen to you, too, God, so I hope that you will help me."
Arent we thankful that God listens to us, no matter what or when. That where 2 or 3 are gathered together in His name He is there. This is never an easy process but if we seek we will find, if we knock the door will be opened. We may not know where it is opening onto but we are assured that by entering we can begin the pilgrimage that will lead to an abundant life. At First Baptist we try to be the kind of people that will help in this discovery. Were human but in our humanity, we try.
