Carl F. Burke was the chaplain of the Erie County Jail in Buffalo, NY. In 1968 he wrote a book called, "Treat Me Cool Lord." It was a book of "Prayers-Devotions-Litanies as prepared by some of Gods bad-tempered angels, with the help of Carl Burke."
Its frontispiece,
"Just Bars
And Bars
And still more bars
A hundred nights without the stars.
Just bars
And bars
A fence or a wall
A human life in an open stall.
The stink
The smell
A prison cell
Not life, a preview of hell."

Out of this background, a prayer.
I Pray for Me
God, I pray for me
Mostly when I need you.
Help me to think of you
When Im not busted
Then maybe I wont
Get busted.
God be merciful to me, a sinner. Luke 18:13
My prayer at First Baptist. God be merciful to we sinners.
