It was a thrill for us in Mauston to have the Indian Baptist Church of Wisconsin Dells continue a long tradition of baptizing their new Christians in our sanctuary yesterday. Mothers, baptized here years ago were now thrilled to see their children profess their own faith in Jesus Christ as Lord of life in the same baptismal pool as they were. Despite the heat a goodly number of family and friends accompanied the young people to experience together the joy of the baptismal experience. Likewise, the Faith Christian people have used the same pool to help their new Christians enter into a new relationship with God through Jesus Christ. We are honored to have them use our facility for a weekly youth program. And today, in concert with the Presbyterians, we reach out to some of those we dont know. That is, to our neighbors in those apartment buildings geographically closest to us with an old fashioned free neighborhood picnic.
It these kind of low key experiences that remind us that Jesus asks us to go beyond simple tolerance to fellowship, and commitment in service to one another and to reach out to those uncomfortable in the traditional expressions of Christianity but with the universal spiritual questions. It may not even have moved to spiritual hunger but simply asking the universal question. Why am I here? What am I living for and hope to accomplish?
We seek to provide no trite response to these questions, but in concert with like minded people to find Gods answers together for ourselves and as a group. Then we seek to go beyond simple answers to find His will for us in expressing these answers in our lives. With this kind of assurance and with the great commission in mind we seek to reach out to all those with whom we come in contact to together find the abundant life Jesus promised.
