March 18, 2002
As I write this and look out of my study window the following from the book of poetry produced as part of the celebration of Wisconsin Baptists sesquicentennial seems most appropriate. Unexpected but appropriate. After all its March.
Snow (1920)
Steady and silent the snow flutters down,
Covers the earth with a wonderful gown,
As still as the flowers that open in May,
As still as the soul that passeth away.
All that is ugly, soiled, and black,
The leafless tree, the weather-beaten shack
Is covered with snow of the purest white,
Covered, recovered, throughout the long night.
Just so has God in his infinite love
Sent us his son from heaven above,
Taken the sinner as black as the night,
Cleansed and covered him in a garment of white.

We pray that this kind of a white out will be our experience. Thats what the Supreme Being intended. For God loved, gave his son, to prove his love for us so we might believe that his way is the way we should live life and thus find life in his name.
