THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
November 19, 2001
ON THANKSGIVING
Let Us Not Forget
We should observe this day with more than feasting.
It should be one of gratitude and prayer
To the Author of all good, a day of praising
For the blessings that surround us everywhere.
A voice sounds from the wilderness so clearly
As when the words were uttered long ago
"We will set a day aside for our thanksgiving
To God for the increase of the seeds we sow.
"For his constant care that ever is about us;
For the promise of this new and untried land,
We will be grateful to Him for the mercies
That flow unhindered from His outflung hand"
Within our wilderness today, so should we
Be reverent and be mindful as were they
Who faced each threatening danger, meeting bravely
The hardships they encountered day by day.
No less than theirs, our future is uncertain.
Today of all days, facing paths untrod,
May we not fail in gratitude for blessings
That are bestowed upon us by our God.
