Last week we shared the thoughts of our International Ministries executive indicating the needs expressed by our missionaries and partner churches to most effectively glorify God in our Global world. I promised specifics in the following weeks. Today we move to a need in the Congo. Here Pygmies (average physical stature, 60 inches or less) occupying the lush forests of Northern Congo are an isolated people unfamiliar with the Christian faith.
The Baptist Community of Western Congo (CBCO) sponsors evangelism efforts among these peoples. Literacy training is essential to this work. After this training CBCO has established10 worship and evangelism sites with 5 workeres at each site.
"The Pygmies have exhibited a real thirst to follow Jesus," says Rev. Umber Ngalubenge a CBCO pastor. "There is a great opening but not enough workers to carry the burden. We must seize the opportunity now to respond to the Pygmies open hand of welcome."
Our ABC missionaries in the area, Glen and Rita Chapman write, "This initiative to target the lost, to work for their dignity, as equal members of the family of God has all along been the initiative, vision and passion of the Baptist church here in Congo. The church, motivated by the love of Christ, offers hope for Central Africa. It is a privilege to be a partner in this vision."
IM has committed $5000 to support this evangelistic ministry among these people. It will make a significant difference.
Monetary resources are in demand around the world, but only energy and effort are required from the Christians of Juneau County to make the same difference in our area. At First Baptist wed love to join with you to get this done.
