A Valentines Day full page advertisement in the Wall Street Journal read:
"They said
it couldnt be done
but our people did it"
It was signed by a corporate CEO
Put the same sign up in church and sign it God. This then becomes the requirement for disciples of Jesus today. Pick out a need under the guidance of the spirit and meet it.
At First Baptist we have been deep into Pauls letter to the Phillipians. In it we read many remarkable things:
The initial and fundamental commitment is found in chapter 2 verse 5f. "Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, who though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a SLAVE."
The challenge is then put to us verse 12b and 13, "work out your own salvation in fear and trembling for it is God who is at work in you, enabling you both to will and to work for his good pleasure."
The truth of the advertisement and the challenge to the church of Jesus is to believe and to act out that belief by making Pauls words in chapter 4 verse 13, our individual testimony "I can do all things through him who strengthens me."
