Another thought from Chaplain Burke’s Treat Me Cool, Lord. Prayers from his experience with prisoners at the Erie, PA County Jail.

Helpfulness

We want to do something real good-

Like helping other kids

Or making homes better

Or giving someone a break

Or helping someone

Not to feel sorry for himself

Or from giving up

Or from shoplifting

Or from snatching a purse,

But mostly to keep them out of trouble

And don’t forget to love ‘em

Even if we can’t help them, Jesus.

Isaiah says it this way:

Is not this the fast (worship) that I choose:

To loose the bonds of injustice,

To undo the thongs of the yoke,

To let the oppressed go free,

and to break every yoke?

Is it not to share your bread with the hungry

And bring the homeless poor into your house

When you see the naked to cover them

and not to hide yourself from your own kin?

Isaiah 58:6,7
